Artist Statement on the Art and Music Connection:
“Music is my second language, and having descended from generations of musicians, it is literally in my DNA. During the process of painting, I feel a familiar rhythm in the motion of my brush across the canvas. I hear music in colors, and the painting process has what feels like a musical effect on me. Combinations of colors and forms are like musical phrases, The colors and sounds they represent blend together to influence the inspiration and the palette.
I have always been drawn to the music of the Impressionist composers such as Ravel and Debussy, where melodies seem hidden beneath shimmering harmonies. I would describe my paintings as Impressionist in nature. Over time I have included less detail and less information, so that the viewer can bring their own experiences and reactions to the painting. I hope my paintings invite the viewer to look closer and to become involved in the story."
